Man to be charged with Meagher’s murder
A man is expected to be charged with the rape and murder of missing ABC radio employee Jill Meagher.
The 41-year-old Coburg man was arrested in Coburg at 2.30pm (AEST) on Thursday.
He continues to assist police with their inquiries.
Detective Superintendent Brett Guerin said the man was expected to be charged with rape and murder.
Detectives had been wanting to talk to a man in a blue hooded jumper seen on CCTV footage with Ms Meagher moments before she vanished in the early hours of last Saturday.
Police have not said if the Coburg man is the person in the hoodie.
Ms Meagher, a 29-year-old who moved from Ireland to the city three years ago, disappeared while walking home alone last Saturday from a Sydney Road bar in Brunswick.
